Am I Black or White – Who Am I ? – Soraya Saraswati

It was a challenge raising four sons as a single parent, but it was also a great privilege and joy.

The hard part was how others perceived us.

I was told when I was pregnant with my first son that he would grow up half Indian and half Australian and that it could be hard for my child and me in our white society.

Angry, I rejected this. How could they tell me the child in my belly was half anything – He was my child, Whole and Perfect and very much wanted and Loved.

Colour has never meant anything to me – I see us as souls having a human experience. We all live in body temples of many colours, shapes and sizes. That is what makes the world so wonderful.
